Dr. Charles Letcher is a unique and highly accompoished individual: a physician, a graduate of West Point, a veteran of five years active duty in the U.S. Military, which included stints as a Special Forces operative, and a veteran weight trainer, Dr. C brings a world of expertise, experience and insight to Natural Champion.

Paging Dr. Letcher premiered in the July, 2006 issue with an article entitled “Kick The Habit Before It Kicks Your Ass!” (the good Dr. C doesn’t believe in mincing words!). In his first ever effort at writing for a ‘mass market’ – as opposed to a research journal – he presented a masterful and compelling essay on steroids as a destructive addiction, referencing medical and psychiatric journals to underscore some of the physiological and psychological effects. In the process, Dr. Letcher shared some very personal insights in his struggle against and triumph over some personal ‘demons’.

In September. 2006, “The Perfect High”, Dr. Letcher explored the realm of the power of suggestion and the science of neurotransmitters in controlling the regulation of all bodily functions. For those of you who did not read the article, the following excerpt will give you an idea of the highly intelligent and thought provoking yet passionate, and compassionate, way in which our ‘resident Doc’ expresses himself:

“The neuro-hormonal system, intricate in its finest detail and well known for its involvement in depression, has only begun to be explored and I am proposing there are forces within our minds, real and natural chemicals we refer as neurotransmitters neither uncharted nor discovered which can elevate our performance to levels here-to-fore unimaginable.

“How often in our lifetimes do we search for that perfect high, the perfect job, wife, family, friends and yes, physique. In so doing do we not forget God’s plan for us and forsake that with our own? Have we not taken drugs and chemicals into our body for any other reason than to improve how we feel or look, simply to satisfy our pleasure or egos? Get with it folks! The only high is indeed within you. Don’t settle for the elusive and fraudulent quest of Roy, but realize your own potential and only be satisfied when you have reached it. Always remember that the problem is not that we aim too high and fail, but that we aim too low and succeed.”

Dr. C’s busy and hectic schedule prevents him from writing for us on a regular basis, but when he does find time to send something our way we at Natural Champion are not only grateful and appreciative but somewhat akin to a kid at Christmas unwrapping a present.
