IN THE GYM: How To Develop Mouth Dropping Abz…Working The Midsection With Cory Gregory
When we featured personal trainer, fitness model, drug free bodybuilder, gym owner and businessman Cory Gregory on the cover of our August, 2006 issue of Natural Champion we got almost an almost instant response from our readers – and staff – on his sensational lean, mean midsection that goes beyond the sought after “6 Pack” to the realm of “8 Pack”.
We asked Cory if he would mind to share some of his ‘secrets’ for developing such a tight, muscular abdominal area and he graciously sent the following:”
“I had always dreamed of having mouth dropping abz. I wanted to have something that everyone wanted because one of my goals is to be featured on the cover of a fitness magazine. Through trial & error I developed my own ab program for thickness & shape. I wanted to get them (abs) so deep that you could put your finger in the rut. Here’s what I came up with:
First, I do either one of 2 cardio programs:
A. 60 Minute Routine: 5 minute run at 6.5-7.0 mph, then 5 minutes walk at 4.0 mph. Alternate running and walking for 60 minutes
- OR -
B. 17 Minute Routine: 5 minute walk /run warmup , then treadmill at between 10-12.0 mph speed alternating 10 seconds on 10 seconds off for 12 minutes total sprint work
After one of these 2 cardio workouts I perform this ab circuit for 4 sets (going through each exercise one after the other, resting very briefly and repeating for 4 times total:
25 wheels, stomaching touching ground (using the wheel)
20 rope ab crunches on knees - heavy as possible with big stretch
50 “old school” broom stick twists
20 low back raises
4 sets
In addition to the above, I do hit 200 more rope crunches at night...after personal training.
Diet is crucial in obtaining a tight, defined midsection. When trying to maximize abdominal shape I eat 5 small meals a day, mostly protein with about 75 grams of green vegetable carbohydrates. During this intense training period I also rotate in brown rice with my meat & greens at lunch twice per week.”
